Memes

Hi guys,

I've come across the concept of the 'Meme' which might be interesting for our project.

The Wikipedia definition is:

A meme (pronounced /ˈmiːm/, rhyming with "cream"[1]) is a postulated unit or element of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, and is transmitted from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena.

The idea of information transmittance and mutation could help us develop a system that evolves over time with users input or imitation of other users.

Have a look at the below link for an essay on Memes and Art:

http://blog.ivanpope.com/awol/2004/06/the_art_meme.html

The idea is that memes act like genes, or viruses, moving and mutating through a population.

Could be interesting........

art talk

there is a system called 'Art Talk' in Philadelphia.

"Individuals who can no longer visit the Museum due to age-related limitations or disabilities can still experience the excitement of a lively conversation about works of art. Art Talk links ten to fifteen participants in their homes with a Museum or Park House Guide on a FREE conference call through a regular phone line, providing an ideal way for art lovers to connect. You can participate in the conversation or just listen, and you do not need an art background to enjoy Art Talk. A booklet will be sent to you to view objects as you listen and discuss them."

The art talk can bring everyone together and sharing art.

ABS Information

Hi guys,

Jackpot!

I have found a wealth of statistical information relating to art and culture on the ABS website.

We can use this as our second method of research, we still need 2 more.

As Bridgette suggested visual analysis/observation might be another and focus groups I think will be helpful as well.

Lit Rev Draft

Hi,

Thanks Kelly for posting the minutes of our meeting yesterday.

I have sent to your email addresses the Lit Review that I've compiled from our research.

I think we still have a long way to go before this is presentable, so can everyone please read it carefully and include more information, edit it as is required and make any suggestions by tomorrow afternoon? I will check my email at 5pm and bring all suggestions to class for us to discuss.

I have done my best to combine our research but there are still gaps as I haven't received summaries or comparisons from everyone yet. Rachel and Daniella can you please send me any more articles on your topic that you have found and the summary information we need to be combined into the final document.

I have highlighted the questions we are investigating in red and any information that will likely need to be changed or deleted in blue.

We will also need someone to spend some time writing the bibliography and making sure all the references are to the Harvard standard. I've kept track of the references so far but there is still a lot of work to be done on this. Volunteers?

Please also start to think about the design aspect of this project as we are going to have to start preparing some concepts this week to test.

See you tomorrow, please try and have more information to me by tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks,

John

meeting Minutes

Group meeting: 29/08/09 wk3

Location: RMIT library

Attendees: Jen, John, Kelly, Rachel

Jen and John brought with the idea on gather the articles into one document.

Jen, John, Kelly and Rachel have done the interviews and summaries of articles.

We discussed the structures of the literature review on meeting and link all articles together. We identify the existing problem based on the interviews, finding the solution to comfort customers and hearing the opinions about what they need.

We also discussed how to let people know about our system, such as, poster with abstract icon and interest to read, discussion board, postcard, use the abstract element to connect our brand and system.

We have to compare the points of articles and look at if they are overlap or opposite also, link the paragraphs together and send it to John by Sunday.

Hi,
