the new identity of melbourne

As John told us about the new icon of Melbourne yesterday, i have found some information about why it is in the colour. i think our colour should be related to this.

“The ‘M’ design will become an icon for Melbourne, synonymous with the modern, vibrant, cool city Melbourne is today and will continue to be in the future.

“The new identity will deliver more impact, be stronger, more flexible and reduce confusion as to who is delivering services. It will build greater long term identification and align with best practice around the world.”

“The new brand is strong and leading edge and will be instantly recognised as belonging to the City of Melbourne.”

Hi,

Below are some site photos from the NGV, I think we decided on the space to the city end of the gallery.

Hi,

I had an idea overnight that we might look into. There have been different artist led movements in the last few years that take a certain shape or form and then customise it, like the cows in Zurich and the bears in Berlin:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CowParade

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Buddy_Bears

More recently there have been popular culture versions of these movemetns such as the customisation of plastic toys like the Munny dolls and even game consoles such as Gameboys.

Perhaps we can use a similar idea to entice people to use our system, have the maps and the way they are packaged customised by artists/designers and vended from machines, possibly in a custom made can (like a soft drink), or bag (like potato chips) so that a standard vending machine can be used.

This might be a way to make the system more personal and appealing, as our research has shown us that we need something other than the genre/time appeal for people to be involved.

We can discuss tonight.

Hi,

Thanks for posting the brand info Jen.

I've sent out the focus group report, please read and add in anything I might have missed, I'm sure there is something.

I think we need to develop some new ideas for our project, especially since our research uncovered that people don't search by genre and time. So what can we use to entice them to interact with the system?

The idea of maps and tours created by artists came to mind when we were talking about a celebrity equivalent of our brand, and possibly having the nodes we design customised by artists also will add that element of diversity to the project that we are looking for.

This might be a way forward?

Anyone else have any ideas?

anything about Branding?
